The 2017 year was the first Pinot Nero that we made. We like this fruity and complex grape variety and the challenges that it gives both in the vineyard and vinery.
We will only produce approx. 800 bottles of the 2017 year. In the following years, we expect to increase the production to approx. 2000 bottles.
- Grape variety: 100% Pinot Nero
- Vineyard planted: 2015 (0.35 hectares)
Viticulture area: 5500 m2 south exposed vineyard 375 m above sea level
in Frazione Valdivilla, Santo Stefano Belbo
- Soil: Sand and limestones
- Climate: Cold winters with normal seasonal progression. Good rainfall, especially in the fall, summers are warm and dry with good humidity
- Pruning: Traditional Guyot’
- Harvest: Harvested by hand. Pinot Nero is usually harvested late August
- Vinification: After destemming, i.e. removing the grapes from the rachis, and crushed the fermentation and maceration takes place with several daily over pumps for about 12 days at a temperature of about 30°C. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine transferred to French oak barrels (tonneau). The storage lasts for about 6-8 months before bottling the wine. The wine is released approx. 6 months ager bottling.
